EXPERIMENT Material Sample Preparation Three ceramic crowns with a 3% yttiria stabized tetragonal zirconia polycrystalline (3Y-TZP) core (3M LAVA, St. Paul, MN) and CZR porcelain veneer (Noritake CZR, Japan) made at different cooling rates were used to image flaws. 3Y-TZPis a preferable dental core material due to its high fracture toughness and flexural strength. Zirconia can exist in three crystallographic forms based on sintering temperature at ambient pressure. The phases are monoclinic at room temperature to 1170 C, tetragonal at 1170 to 2370 C, and cubic at 2370 and up to the melting point.
Alternative materials, such as zirconia-silica glass ceramics, with improved mechanical properties may be of interest for more demanding applications. In this study, a sol-gel method was optimized to produce nano grain-sized glass ceramics based on the zirconia-silica system. max CAD) via a proper heat treatment. In conclusion, a translucent glass ceramic system with promising mechanical properties was prepared by a sol-gel method, and has a good potential for dental applications. INTRODUCTION Ceramics and glass ceramics are commonly used as dental materials such as crowns due to their adequate mechanical properties and appealing aesthetics.
For further development, the content of Z1O2 in this system could be further optimized. Although promising results were obtained it should be noted that the process is sensitive to outer disturbance because of the formation of cracks during drying.
